Dr. Jeff Thompson
Jeff Thompson, PhD, engages in work and research to better humankind here on Earth and beyond. He is a researcher at the New York Psychiatric Institute (hosted at Columbia University Medical Center’s Psychiatry Department) and an instructor in the College of Leadership and Public Service at Lipscomb University. He retired from the NYPD after serving more than 20 years in the rank of detective having roles as a hostage negotiator and their first-ever mental health and wellness coordinator helping oversee the well-being of 50,000 people, both uniformed and civilian.
Dr. Thompson’s translational research involves resilience, leadership, negotiation, suicide prevention and investigating suicide, and the psychological impact of narratives. His work and research has crossed professions and borders having worked with first responders, business leaders, medical and healthcare professionals, NASA, and the military across the world including in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Dr. Thompson recently completed his second doctorate at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland researching narrative psychology and has been published in a variety of academic research journals, professional publications, and for the public including Psychology Today.
